New Opera Mobile 9.5

Opera Mobile was launched in 2000 as the first mobile browser to bring the full Web to the small mobile screen. Since 2004 it has been installed on 120 million phones. Opera Mobile has pioneered and set the standard in mobile browsing, supporting the latest technologies and receiving industry acclaim. This year, Opera continues to provide the best mobile Web experience with the first beta of Opera Mobile 9.5.

The new version, v9.51b2, is called a Technology Preview, and is compatible with Windows Mobile 5 & 6 touchscreen devices. Quick testing of version 9.51b2 showed it to be somewhat speedier than previous versions, both in terms of basic rendering speed and in zooming in and out. But there are still bugs and Flash support has not yet been added.

Install the Opera Mobile 9.5 technology preview build on your phone (virtually every handset is supported - iPhone aside), navigate to the Google Gears website and just click the 'Install Gears' button. Gears functionality then kicks in automatically when visiting any site with support and compliance is growing all the time.

Opera Mobile 9.5 is the most standards compliant browser available, and the company remains steadfast in its commitment to make the Web accessible for all. The version of the Gears enabled browser is just an initial release and might have some chinks in its armor. Those who would like to take it for a spin might as well head over to the download page over at Opera Labs. Only available for Windows Mobile and Pocket PC as of now!
