Facebook goes mobile with iPhone

Facebook is letting users of its flourishing social-networking community play together on the road by using Apple's popular iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices. Facebook members can use the community-oriented applications through iPhones as they would if they were connecting through a home computer. They launched Connect last year as a way to break down the walls between the social networking service and other websites and services on the Internet.

Morin invited several iPhone developers to show off their new functionality. Representatives from Playfish, Tapulous, and SGN showed off how Facebook Connect for iPhone will work with games. For instance, you can share you scores in your Facebook feed, see which of your friends are online, and invite both iPhone- and non-iPhone-using Facebook friends to play with you.

“Agency Wars” appears to be the most exciting game that allows people pretend to be members of agencies such as the CIA or MI6 and work as mobile teams on missions while becoming “the most deadly spy around.” It is a spy game that uses geolocation to let you leave clues and set traps in specific real-world locations. Recruit friends to your spy agency, or play against them and “assassinate them.”

Other Facebook-oriented applications premiering at the App Store include Urbanspoon restaurant review-sharing service and Flixster film recommendation website, along with games "iBowl," "Live Poker," and "Tap Tap Revenge 2."

Google Image Search Update

Google announced a new update had been released into the wild for Android-based mobile phones and for iPhone/iPod Touch devices, offering a new image search feature for Google Image Search. Basically, the new feature allows users to see up to 20 images per page at once.

Google Image search can be a huge source of referrals for many sites, so it would make sense to me if Google decided to update the image index more frequently. Especially since images and video are so much more active these days on the web. It is alluring to see that the updates are now coming at a regular level. There is some contemplation that Google might be updating their image index at a more constant level. It may be a very good move especially when the web world is decked with news related with videos and images all over!

According to Google, the new Image Search is available for owners of said devices who live in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. Given the limited number of countries that the feature is available in, some users already expressed their discontent in this regard. Hopefully, Google will soon make it available for those who live in other areas as well.

Google is updating quicker then ever. Because every body is working so hard for their sites and they are promoting so well. You can also find some sites that usually seem it has no value but it’s on top of Google search. All these are happening for this promotion.

Skype Coming to BlackBerry Smartphones

Skype announced that the lite version of Skype, a 'thin' Skype client for mobile phones, will soon be available as a free download for BlackBerry smartphones. A beta version will be available in May for the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve smartphones, with support for other BlackBerry smartphones coming later.

BlackBerry smartphone users who download Skype can save money on calls to landlines and mobiles abroad, and stay connected with friends and family over Skype. The application works wherever your mobile phone works, without needing a Wi-Fi connection. It uses local air time and a mobile Internet connection to sign in to Skype, update your contact list and presence and to send/receive calls or messages. As a result, you must have both a calling plan and a data plan to use the lite version of Skype.
You will be charged by your mobile operator for local air time and data usage based on the type of calling service and data plan you have purchased. Since the lite version of Skype uses a mobile data connection to sign in to Skype, update your contact list, update presence and send/receive messages, you will be charged by your mobile operator for data usage. You will not incur charges from Skype when you make Skype-to-Skype calls or send instant messages to friends on Skype; however national calling rates apply from your mobile operator due to the use of local air time. Skype will charge its regular very low Skype rates when you call landlines and mobiles using Skype or when you receive calls on your mobile handset from other Skype users or people calling your personal online number.

The beta of the lite version of Skype will be available as a free download to BlackBerry smartphone users beginning in May from http://mobiledownload.skype.com using their BlackBerry Browser.

Dell cuts 230 jobs in Dublin

The US computer giant is set to lay off up to 230 more workers in Ireland as a part of cost-cutting plans. Dell has already announced 1,900 job cuts at its plant in the Raheen area of Limerick as part of a plan to move production to Poland. The company employs around 1,300 people in Cherrywood in south Dublin and has around 1,000 manufacturing positions in Limerick.

A spokeswoman for Dell refused to confirm or deny media reports that some 10 percent of the remaining workforce were to go at its centres in Dublin and Limerick in the south-west of Ireland. Ireland, which entered recession in September, suffered a major economic blow in January when Dell announced the closure of its assembly operation in Limerick with the loss of 1,900 jobs to a plant in Poland.

Dell, which set up operations in Ireland in 1990 and employed 4,500 at its height, has been one of the jewels in the crown of the so-called Celtic Tiger economy. Cherrywood is home to Dell's sales operation for the Irish market and to the home and small/medium business sector of the UK market.

Waterford westwood seem to be in trouble and EMC announced that they will be cutting 7% of the global workforce. EMC has not indicated where the job cuts will happen but they employ 1,500 approx in Cork.

What is Internet Marketing?

Internet marketing, also referred to as i-marketing, web marketing, online marketing, or eMarketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet. The Internet has brought many unique benefits to marketing, one of which being lower costs for the distribution of information and media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing, both in terms of providing instant response and eliciting responses, is a unique quality of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to have a broader scope because it not only refers to digital media such as the Internet, e-mail, and wireless media; however, Internet marketing also includes management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems.

The decision to use Internet marketing as part of a company's overall marketing strategy is strictly up to the company of course, but as a rule, Internet marketing is becoming an increasingly important part of nearly every company's marketing mix. For some online businesses, it is the only form of marketing being practiced.

The online market is growing at a level far above that of the retail market, which is making anyone with the need to make money turn to the internet. The problem is you aren't the only one in the world with the idea to start an online business. With millions of people turning to the internet to try and strike gold with ecommerce sales, the competition has become ever so high online.

The Internet has greatly enabled home businesses to prosper because of the reasonably low cost to start and maintain a web presence. Therefore, Internet marketing should be part of your business plan and your marketing strategy.

MS Office 2008 for Mac OS

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is the most recent version of the Microsoft Office productivity suite for Mac OS X. It supersedes Office 2004 for Mac and is the Mac OS X equivalent of Office 2007, the latest version for Windows. It was developed by Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit and released on January 15, 2008.

Office 2008 supports the new Office Open XML format, and defaults to saving all files in this format. On February 21, 2008 Geoff Price revealed that the format conversion update for Office 2004 would be delayed until June 2008 in order to provide the first update to Office 2008.

The Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update contains several changes that improve security, stability, and performance. These changes include fixes for users of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, and include fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code.

Office 2008 for Mac will share some technologies with its Windows counterpart, Office 2007, making for seamless compatibility between the different versions, according to Microsoft. Both Office releases will use the Office Open XML Formats, which will enable users to easily save files and open files in either platform.

This offers good looks that encompass deeper features than other Mac productivity software; business users get full Word mail merge, robust Excel spreadsheets, and better tools in Entourage; amateur desktop publishing features more polished documents; runs on Intel-based Macs.

2009 - Top Search Engines

Strategies for ranking well in "natural," or "organic," search engine listings are quite different from those used in paid search engine advertising. Search engine optimization (SEO) specifically concerns natural search results. A viable strategy to promote a client site not only to search engines but also to the user base (and, in turn, back the engines via user generated content, blogs, etc.) is a valuable commodity -- so much so that it expands the influence of SEO.

Below is a listing of the top search engines for 2009:

2009 Google Yahoo! MSN/Live Ask Total
2009 03 72.13% 16.56% 5.50% 4.02% 98.21%
2009 02 72.11% 17.52% 5.55% 3.47% 98.65%

No matter how the search engines create, tweak, or change functionality, the game will remain the same for an agency SEO: increase visibility of the client. No matter how it may change, 2009 is sure to be another interesting year for search. Optimization must always be performed on Web site pages that reside on your domain. It should never be performed on a new microsite hosted on an SEO firm's server.

Cuil - The Biggest Serch Engine in the World

Cuil is a search engine that organizes web pages by content and displays relatively long entries along with thumbnail pictures for many results. It claims to have a larger index than any other search engine, with about 120 billion web pages. Cuil launched in July 2008 with an index of 121,617,892,992 web pages. According to Alexa, the site reached a peak of just over 0.2% of worldwide internet users in late July 2008 and by September 12, 2008, it had dropped to 0.02% and ranked as the 5,340th site by traffic. By October 13, 2008, it had dropped to 0.005% and ranked as the 21,960th site in traffic.

Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.

Cuil's distinctive design, in which results appear in three columns across the page, also allows for longer previews of each site's content. But other search sites make better use of page real estate. SearchMe, which launched earlier this year, offers full-page snapshots in its results, through which you can flip like the album covers on iTunes. And the No. 4-ranked search engine, Ask, also uses a wider layout to display both images and sub-categories for refining one's search.

There are four major areas that Cuil is putting out to distinguish itself from other services. These are: Big web index, Unique relevance algorithm, Unique results display and Privacy.

Cuil could be a wild success that eclipses Yahoo and Microsoft and does threaten Google itself.

Advantages of PPC

The advantage of PPC advertising is that you achieve a top ranking the very same day versus waiting for weeks or months with the free major search engines and you receive a guaranteed placement on every keyword you choose without needing to tweak the content of your pages.

PPC ads can immediately generate visibility for your website by getting you placed on SERPs of the desired keywords. Distinctively, PPC advertising is Definite, Flexible and Low Risk. Meanwhile, creating a "good landing page" that utilizes keywords was also advised to increase return on investment. There is no point spending a lot of time and money getting a particular keyword into the top of the SERP’s, only to find that it doesn’t convert as well as another keyword. Use pay per click to discover the top converting keywords before you optimize them for SEO.

Balancing the pay-per-click cost against the financial benefit of the extra clicks leads many advantage. For example, with a conversion rate (the percentage of people who visit your site and buy your product or whatever it is you want them to do) of 1%, it takes 100 visitors before you make a sale. At 1 cent per click those visitors will cost you a total of $1. After that you can decide how much you're willing to pay per click to stay profitable.

PPC advertisers can adjust the maximum bid limit based on the profitability of the campaign. The position of the PPC ad in SERPs is decided accordingly. So if you feel that beyond 15¢ a click your profitability goes down, then you need not bid any more on the same.

PPC is easy - you need not a lot of knowledge and skills to develop fruition. A great advantage to someone who does not have the time to learn optimization or the upfront to paid for it. They never allows the web site owner to truly fault find problem areas of the web site and also it favors big business with large marketing budgets.

2009 - Top 10 Social Networking Sites

Business networking websites, or more generally, “social networking” sites with a business bent are exploding across the Internet. If you’ve resisted the temptation to join or participate in any of these online communities thinking them frivolous, it’s time to reconsider.

There are thousands of social networking sites on the Web. These are the 10 that stood out from the survey. They may not be your favorites, or even make a difference in your life at all, but they're the one's that have done something online. MySpace is still the first in the big categories, but its trends in some key areas aren’t quite so dominating and, at least in those areas, they could be looking up at more than Facebook soon.

You can see the list below:

The market share of visits percentage does not include traffic for all sub-domains of certain websites that could be reported on separately.

Tips for Writing Articles

Writing articles and submitting them to a worldwide audience online can be very exciting in the beginning. You start out with great ideas. You're motivated. You're inspired. You're ready, willing and able to educate audiences worldwide. You're psyched to start building your list with targeted leads so you can make more money online selling your books, products and services.

  • The headline or the title should be very well chosen. People read the longest articles and letters if they are attracted to the headline. Stick with all facts and figures on proof base only and avoid feathery or over ambitious claims. A reader should never feel a loss of reliability from the article by you being more promotional and less enlightening.
  • Include examples. Here's an example of how to include an example. Let's say you're writing about a weight-loss program. You've already told your reader that countless people have benefited tremendously while on the program. Now create a powerful image of the program with three short success stories from real people with real-live testimonials. Examples drive the point home and build your reputation as an expert!
  • Before you begin writing think of the points that your article is going to cover. You may not necessarily show the points, as I am doing in this article (calling them ten tips), however, for your own outline of the article you should know what you are going to say before you begin writing. Write down these points and then make sure you include them as you begin the writing process.
  • Now usually the hardest part of writing articles is coming up with ideas. So it is very important that you develop an electronic system for recording your ideas. This will save you so much time.
  • Without appropriate punctuation, especially commas, that word-speaking part will eventually choke on the sentence. Having said that, there’s a tendency to over-punctuate as well, particularly with exclamation points. Too little punctuation makes it seem you want to collapse someone’s lung, too much makes it look like you’re a 14-year-old girl writing an IM. You want to avoid both.
  • Instead, many online writers and webmasters choose the keyword phrase, instead. With the use of keyword research tools, the webmaster can search for a single keyword and find the best keyword phrases to match their content. These word combinations need to be highly searched with low competition in order to move up the SERP with ease.

Some articles meets these criteria for being "expert-level," and others don't. Trust, It's not one out there who's judging. Position your articles at the top of your category and increase your credibility a thousandfold! Read this and get helpful article-writing tips.

Making Money from Blogs

Some people have strong personal feelings with respect to making money from their blogs. Many of the people who write blogs today simply want to share their opinion on something. But then there are the business-minded folks, who have found a way to use blogs, or Web logs, to bring in a little extra cash too. If you think commercializing your blog is evil, immoral, unethical, uncool, lame, greedy, obnoxious, or anything along those lines, then don’t commercialize it. Many of the people who write blogs today simply want to share their opinion on something. But then there are the business-minded folks, who have found a way to use blogs, or Web logs, to bring in a little extra cash too.

Try and choose an event that you have an interest in. It could be a major sports event, a major product launch or major movie release. The optimum word here though is “major.” If its a sports event it needs to be at least a bi-annual event rather than being held each year. A major product launch could be the next new Harley Davidson due out in 2 years etc. and if its a movie, it needs to already have a fan base so it wants to be a remake, a follow on or a hugely popular book or TV show adaptation and it doesn’t want to be due for release for at least 18 months.

If you build up a large subscriber base, you can also use it to send other email campaigns and promotions for your merchandise, book, or affiliate products. A word of caution, however, no one likes unsolicited emails so you should be sure that you have permission to send additional emails and that they offer something of value and are not just viewed as annoyances. Finally, over time as your readership and brand grows, you can also offer a paid version of your newsletter that contains more information than the free one.

Many people associate blogs exclusively with a cyberspace-based soapbox — a place to shout your opinions and little more than that. Granted, blogs are an ideal venue to share your thoughts with others, but don't overlook their capacity to generate new business as well. When appropriate, work in references to what you do and, in turn, what you may be able to offer any would-be client or customer who may be reading your blog.

Safari 3.2.2 Released for Windows Platforms

Windows users can download Safari 3.2.2 using the Apple Software Update application that was automatically installed the first time their PC got Apple software. The web browser has been patched to solve input validation problems with feed URLs, according to Apple, who credits Clint Ruoho of Laconic Security, Billy Rios of Microsoft, and Brian Mastenbrook for reporting the issues present in the Windows version of Safari.

The Safari beta version for Windows had several known bugs and a zero day exploit that allows remote execution, upon its initial beta release on June 11, 2007, in version 3.0. The addressed bugs were then corrected by Apple three days later on June 14, 2007, in version 3.0.1 on Windows. On June 22, 2007, Apple released Safari 3.0.2 to address some bugs, performance issues and other security issues. Safari 3.0.2 for Windows handles some fonts that are missing in the browser but already installed on Windows computers, such as Tahoma, Trebuchet MS, and others.

Its first beta away many PC users to Apple, because of its many flaws, but like wine, improve with time and after betas betas Safari has matured. Today, we are just using a web browser more stable, more secure and with improvements in the most disparate.

Since the release of Safari, its browser usage share has been climbing. For the month of May 2007, thecounter.com shows that Safari has a usage share of 2.86%; NetApplications.com reports that Safari has a usage share of 4.59% as of April 2007, an increase of 1.33 percentage points since May 2006.

Experience the web, Apple Style, with Safari - the fastest, easiest to use web browser in the world. With its simple, elegant interface, Safari gets out of your way and lets you enjoy the web - up to 2 times faster than Internet Explorer. Now on Windows, too. Great invention!!!

New Opera Mobile 9.5

Opera Mobile was launched in 2000 as the first mobile browser to bring the full Web to the small mobile screen. Since 2004 it has been installed on 120 million phones. Opera Mobile has pioneered and set the standard in mobile browsing, supporting the latest technologies and receiving industry acclaim. This year, Opera continues to provide the best mobile Web experience with the first beta of Opera Mobile 9.5.

The new version, v9.51b2, is called a Technology Preview, and is compatible with Windows Mobile 5 & 6 touchscreen devices. Quick testing of version 9.51b2 showed it to be somewhat speedier than previous versions, both in terms of basic rendering speed and in zooming in and out. But there are still bugs and Flash support has not yet been added.

Install the Opera Mobile 9.5 technology preview build on your phone (virtually every handset is supported - iPhone aside), navigate to the Google Gears website and just click the 'Install Gears' button. Gears functionality then kicks in automatically when visiting any site with support and compliance is growing all the time.

Opera Mobile 9.5 is the most standards compliant browser available, and the company remains steadfast in its commitment to make the Web accessible for all. The version of the Gears enabled browser is just an initial release and might have some chinks in its armor. Those who would like to take it for a spin might as well head over to the download page over at Opera Labs. Only available for Windows Mobile and Pocket PC as of now!

Windows 7

Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) will be the next release of Microsoft Windows, an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, Tablet PCs, and media center PCs. Microsoft stated in 2007 they were planning Windows 7 development for a three-year time frame starting after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista. Microsoft has stated that the final release date would be determined by product quality.

Some product features of Windows 7, such as the ability to watch and record live TV or navigation through the use of "touch," may require advanced or additional hardware. The features and functionality you find in the pre-release product may not appear in the final version of Windows 7.

Windows 7 Media Center adds to the impressive changes that VMC made to the XP release, that made it far easier to use and vastly improved the 10ft interface. Windows 7 beta allows you to try Windows for free (legally) on your Mac. For those who don't want to go the Boot Camp route, either because they are risk averse or because they actually want to use their Mac as a Mac, there are the usual virtualization options--namely VMware and Parallels.

Microsoft is projecting that Windows 7 Home Premium will be purchased by most consumers worldwide while Windows 7 Professional will be the choice of small and medium businesses. Windows 7 Enterprise has been reserved for large business while Windows 7 Ultimate (which offers the same feature set as Windows 7 Enterprise) will target specialized consumers who do not want to miss any features of the new operating system.

Microsoft pointed out that its up to the developers that write software for the Windows platform to continue this practice of being energy efficient and generally resource conservative. According to Microsoft, the developers now have sufficient tools to control the power consumption of their applications to a great extent.

Layoffs to hit another Dell plant

Dell is laying off workers, but the company will not give the total number and location of all employees affected. Dell did confirm that some of those affected are from the Winston-Salem, N.C., plant.

They shuttered its desktop manufacturing division in Lebanon January, probably in response to a widespread aversion to the outmoded, space-hogging dinosaurs in favor of itty bitty laptops.

"Mr. Mehran Ravanpay, the plant manager at Dell, has informed me that the workforce at our local facility had increased to approximately 1,400 people and that this reduction affects only a small percentage of the workforce," Joines said in a statement. "Obviously, we are very grateful for the approximately 1,200 jobs that remain here. Dell continues to be among our leading employers and corporate citizens. We have every confidence that as the economy improves, so will the employment opportunities at this facility."

Dell also reaffirmed its plans to reduce employee headcount by at least 8,800. So far, it has eliminated 3,200 positions. Overall, the company hopes to reduce expenses by US$3 billion a year on average over the next three years.

Yahoo Unveils Rich Ads

Yahoo, they have been testing a new service called Rich Ads that lets advertisers add video, images and custom search boxes to Yahoo search ads (view example). The results appear as “Promotional Results” that can combine the relevance of search with the impact of rich media. A small group of advertisers tested it in the fourth quarter of 2008 and saw click-through rates (CTRs) rise by as much as 25%. Yahoo further states that these advertisers have also seen improved brand exposure and conversion rates.

Post images and video, which can increase the branding impact of search advertising. Pedigree has added video to its campaigns, for instance. Create deep links to relevant pages, which can help drive conversions directly from the Yahoo! search results page. Include boxes within the listing that lets users search for their desired product or a store location directly without additional navigation. Esurance’s listing lets users enter their ZIP codes from the results page for insurance quotes. Show their logo, which enhances user trust.

Yahoo is charging a monthly fee for the service, versus the auction-based pricing of search advertising, which Mr. Mayer said Yahoo might use in the future. For now, it is allowing only certain large, brand-focused advertisers — which have existing commercials or logos — to participate in the program. SoBe, Pepsi and Home Depot were all part of the pilot program.

Yahoo updates its search capabilities, it has been under pressure from Wall Street analysts to consider selling its search business to Microsoft. Recently, Microsoft’s chief executive, Steven A. Ballmer, has repeatedly expressed interest in such a deal.

Yahoo Launches New Ad Targeting Products

Yahoo! has launched three new products that will further help their online advertisers to better reach their target audience and get better value for the money they spend on advertising. Two of these new products are meant for display ads while the third is for sponsored search ads.

Yahoo remains incredibly well positioned to meet the growing advertiser demand for performance marketing offerings, and no other company can provide marketers with such scale and expertise across search and display advertising. Yahoo believes that it has an advantage with targeting tools because its massive userbase makes the audiences that can be reached through targeting significant. On some properties, targeting is of minimal value because targeting only reaches audiences on the order of thousands of users. According to Joanne Bradford, Yahoo's senior vice president of U.S. revenue and market development

Search retargeting serves display ads to users based on what they've searched for, regardless of where they are in the Yahoo network. "For example, if a user searches for the keyword 'sandals,' indicating strong purchase intent, an advertiser can target that user with a tailored display ad for footwear," the company explained in a press release.

Enhanced retargeting serves dynamically-generated display ads based on a user's activity on the advertiser's site.

Enhanced targeting is a blanket term used to describe more granular targeting capabilities on search advertising, including ad scheduling and demographic targeting within search.

Yahoo is also expected to launch a search advertising tool that enables users to manage what time and day of the week they wish their ads to run. Demo targeting specifics, including age group and gender, will also be incorporated.

Microsoft Closes adCenter Analytics

Mel Carson, Microsoft adCenter’s Community Manager, announced yesterday that they will close the adCenter Analytics program at the beta stage itself. Microsoft adCenter Analytics was designed with the intention of providing website owners with detailed reports of the activity of their users and also to let them track the performance of their advertisements. Microsoft's adCenter Analytics has not yet left beta, and it appears that it will not ever do so. The company announced today that the program will be shut down at the end of the year.

Microsoft notified testers that the analytics product was being discontinued. Testers have until December 31, 2009, to copy their historical data.

A Microsoft employee in the Advertising Platform group who has worked in adCenter Analytics expressed that a similar standalone product would not be forthcoming. “This announcement in an indication of a conclusion that they have come to that, for them, providing analytics in the form of a standalone tool like ACA does not present the best value or utility for our customers,” Ian Thomas, director of yield business intelligence product management, wrote on his personal blog. “Of course, it is not my place to be making ad hoc pronouncements about our analytics product strategy, especially not at a moment like this; so I have probably said enough already,” he cautioned.

It’s not clear whether this is the end for a home-grown Microsoft analytics solution or merely a pause before a different product is introduced in the future.

Brief about Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Search engines score Web Site Design on a vast range of criteria, which are constantly assessed to ensure that the most suitable sites appear in your search results. There are so many factors to consider when getting involved in the Search Engine Optimization (optimisation)(seo) process that it can be too easy to miss a step along the way. We have the experience & Knowledge within the Internet Marketing arena to drive your web site to the top of the rankings.

The keyword research process should be clearly defined. Although keyword research is also important for search engine optimization (SEO), testing can happen more rapidly in PPC advertising, and changes can be made with immediate results. For SEO, you have to stick with the keywords you chose for at least long enough to get that page indexed and help develop links that utilize the keyword in the anchor text to that page.

SE are always working towards improving their technology to crawl the web more deeply and return increasingly relevant results to users. However, there is and will always be a limit to how search engines can operate. Whereas the right moves can net you thousands of visitors and attention, the wrong moves can hide or bury your site deep in the search results where visibility is minimal. In addition to making content available to search engines, SEO can also help boost rankings so that content that has been found will be placed where searchers will more readily see it.

Successful search optimization for international markets may require professional translation of web pages, registration of a domain name with a top level domain in the target market, and web hosting that provides a local IP address. Otherwise, the fundamental elements of search optimization are essentially the same, regardless of language.

Useful Blogging Tips

Weblogs are unique in that only a weblog gives you a publication where your ideas can stand alone without interference. It gives the public writer a kind of relaxation not available in other forms. That might mean that in some sense the "quality" of the writing is different, but I would not say lower, assuming the purpose of writing is to inform, not to impress.

If you blog on your own you will miss opportunities. It is impossible keeping up with all the news and trends related to blogging. A network of bloggers that target the same niche can help each other in several ways. If they come upon an interesting topic or option they will inform their fellow bloggers about it. They can also promote the blogs of other network members in their own blogs.

A lot of bloggers seem to specialize in finding interesting content and providing a link and maybe a few words to recommend to their readers that they check out the original content on someone else’s blog or site. While this isn’t so much about finding original content for your blog, it is about finding information and resources that is helpful to your readers.

Off site SEO techniques are as the name suggests factors from outside the site itself (ie from other sites) that impact the blog’s ranking in search engines. Many of these factors are outside the blogger’s control - however they are useful to know. The most obvious and probably most powerful offsite factor are Inbound Links

There are many means to an end and many ways of achieving a mission. For instance if your mission is to make a living from blogging you could do so in many different ways ranging from blogs that rip off the content of others, to blogs that are purely original in content, to blogs that explore topics of purely a ‘family nature’ to blogs that are quite explicit and ‘adult’ in their nature etc.

As blogging has risen in it’s profile as a medium more and more businesses are starting blogs. Many of these companies have internal staff take on blogging duties - but an increasing number of them are hiring specialist bloggers to come on and run their blogs. I know of a number of bloggers who in the past month or two have been approached for such paid work.

Importance of Web Browser

A web browser is an important tool for visiting web pages. Most browsers of today have a toolbar which is a row of icons that activate certain functionality when the user click on it. Often the browser toolbars add functionality and ease-of-use to the end user. There are many popular third party web browser toolbars like Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Alexa Toolbar, Weather Toolbar, Dictionary.com Toolbar and more.

Web browsers are the most-commonly-used type of HTTP user agent. Although browsers are typically used to access the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by Web servers in private networks or content in file systems.

The "browser wars" have long been considered over, regardless of the final outcome of the U.S. court cases against Microsoft or speculation that the European Union will succeed in breaking up the company even if the U.S. doesn't.

You can get a more cutting-edge version of this open-source software by trying Firefox. Also,
while Mozilla has e-mail and html-editor components, Firefox is just the browser portion. For some reason, browsing the categories and subcategories of an online store satisfies a basic human shopping need of seeing the contents of a store in a way that searching does not. In fact, retail sites usually host three times as many browsers as they do searchers, making the stakes in creating successful browsing quite high.

SEO Tips for the beginners

  • Insert keywords within the title tag so that search engine robots will know what your page is about. The title tag is located right at the top of your document within the head tags. Inserting a keyword or key phrase will greatly improve your chances of bringing targeted traffic to your site. Make sure that the title tag contains text which a human can relate to. The text within the title tag is what shows up in a search result. Treat it like a headline.
  • Submit to the search engines yourself. Do not use a submission service or submission software. Doing so could get your site penalized or even banned.
  • Best seo practice is to get at least one of your primary keywords in domain or sub domain name of your website. You can use hyphens (-) to separate multiple keywords. For example: seo-service, seo-guidelines, free-seo each cover two keyords.
  • Don’t design your web site without considering SEO. Make sure your web designer understands your expectations for organic SEO. Doing a retrofit on your shiny new Flash-based site after it is built won’t cut it. Spiders can crawl text, not Flash or images.
  • Understand social marketing. It IS part of SEO. The more you understand about sites like Digg, Yelp, del.icio.us, Facebook, etc., the better you will be able to compete in search. To get the best chance for your videos to be found by the crawlers, create a video sitemap and list it in your Google Webmaster Central account.

Google Radio Ads Off The Airwaves

The audio ad service was launched in 2006 to enable the buying and selling of radio ads via Google AdWords. However, the search company now feel that in spite of investing a lot of resources, these services have not actually managed to create the kind of impact that was expected and it would be better to discontinue these services.

Google's entry into radio advertising may not come as a complete surprise. The company hinted at such a move in January 2006, when it bought dMarc Broadcasting. The purchase cost the company approximately $1 billion, but it bought them a company that connects radio stations to advertisers via an automated system.

If Google radio ads actually catch on, they could have significant implications for the way radio ads are sold. That could be a good thing for an industry that saw April revenues, for example, drop 5 percent from a year ago, according to the Radio Advertising Bureau trade association.

Even though Google executives maintain that they are closing the audio ads service due to failed expectations, if one looks at all their other recent cut-backs - print ads, followed closely by the closure of Jaiku, Dodgeball and Notebook - it looks suspiciously like a move to try and keep up the profit margin and tide over the financial meltdown by sticking to what they know best - search.

What is Organic SEO?

"Organic SEO" refers to the manual type of page optimization vs. automatic submittal and page alteration. Organic search results are those that are displayed "naturally" unlike paid advertising.

Organic SEO is the use to of search engine to draw traffic by means of complex methods and techniques. The technique or optimizing is the process of attaining higher search engine rankings and directories via changes to a site to make it more search engine friendly as well as off page factors that influence ranking such as quality and relevance of incoming links.

A sophisticated search engine optimization company will often take the meaning of "organic" one step further. To such companies, the description of "organic SEO" is not limited to what shows up in the "natural" search engine results - it includes the methodologies used to achieve such rankings.

One of the biggest factors to improving your rankings with natural search engine optimization is by boosting your "Link Popularity" by acquiring or paying for links that point to your web site. These links give you lasting results by giving you top rankings and traffic from the search engines. Plus, the links themselves will provide a significant boost in long term traffic.

A good website does have the characteristics of an organism and does develop in the manner of a living plant or animal. It builds upon itself. It learns how it should behave for its own benefit. Most importantly, it establishes its territory at the top of the search engine results. And as the organism thrives, artificial machine after machine fades into obsolescence.

Getting Massive Free Website Traffic

There are also only three real ways to get in front of the traffic flow. You can buy traffic, borrow traffic, or create traffic. You can create traffic by putting things on the Internet that people are attracted to. You can create content by writing articles or blogging for example. I love content creation and have written over 1100 different articles. My articles teach people how to solve pressing problems, and at the same time point them to me (my sites) as a great resource.

Networking with your fellow MLM professionals can increase links back to your website, increase your chances of being seen as an expert, increase your mailing list, sell more of your product, get new team members to sign up, make you new friends - in fact there's not a lot to be said against joining a few MLM related groups and networking online.

Now, the surge in popularity of Google's Adwords being the most used web traffic advertising method is very evident as you can see so many sites sporting this ad scheme.

To use Google's Adwords, you pay a certain fee depending on the number of keywords your ad is keyword sensitive to. Each time a person does a search in Google, the keyword or keywords use generate ads in the side of Google which are generated by the keywords they have assigned for their ads.

Many webmasters really struggle with website traffic generation, and there is absolutely no need to. You merely find the huge pools of traffic interested in your topic, and then you stand underneath the waterfall, and enjoy the cool, refreshing flow of new visitors.

Google Ocean Takes Google Earth Beyond the "Dirt"

Ocean in Google Earth, which launched today, builds on the free, popular 3-D mapping software Google Earth by allowing users to navigate underwater in unprecedented clarity. The new fish-eye view—accessible via a free upgrade—aims to provide a public platform for users to talk about the oceans, said John Hanke, director of Geo Products at Google.

The new fish-eye view—accessible via a free upgrade—aims to provide a public platform for users to talk about the oceans, said John Hanke, director of Geo Products at Google.

"It really is a means... [of] raising geographical awareness of oceans and … the pressures that are being put on life in the ocean," he added.

Google Earth is one of the company's most popular products. The software has been downloaded on half a billion computers. "Talk about a dream coming true," said Earle, who has struggled for decades to find a way to connect the public to the ocean. "Now anyone in just a few minutes can understand what it has taken me 50 years to understand, that the ocean really matters, that in fact the world is blue."

Earle and others joined Google in a partnership to move beyond mountains and valleys to simulate the ocean so anyone can explore its vast surface and depths online. Then Google finally put the world's oceans on the map.

Great one!!!

Importance of Pay Per Click

PPC or pay per click is a comparatively new way of paid advertising and you only have to pay when your advert is physically clicked on. When visitors click on your advert they are taken to your website or sales page that is targeted to your advertisements product or service, meaning a higher chance of achieving a sale or enquiry.

A beautifully designed landing page having informative and impressive contents will generate more sales. The selection of keywords for bidding is the most important task for any PPC (pay per click) campaign as certain keywords might be costly.

Google Adsense, often used by Google authorized resellers would be an example of PPC website advertising. Pay-per-click website advertising options for websites such as Google authorized resellers will help you when crafting. Building PPC campaign can be very frustrating, especially when you don't have basic Excel skills. But let me tell you- even average level of excel won't necessary provide you with easy solution either.

Softwares are also available for PPC which makes the effective campaign. PPC tracking software is effective software that will help you determine which advertisements and keywords are really generating sales for you. Knowing what keywords and ads are converting into sales is extremely important to you as a marketer.

PPC requires certain practices and consistent monitoring by a search engine optimization expert to make it a successful campaign. This not only makes your ad campaign successful but also decreases the cost per click of your ad campaign.

SEO for Mobile

Search engine optimisation for mobile phones and handheld devices is not very different from regular SEO. The most important element of mobile SEO is ensuring that your customers can view your website correctly on their wireless device.

As far as understanding whether your site is going to be accessed, Google crawls your site as a Nokia 6820 which accepts XHTML. Some of the important aspects in Mobile SEO are in the following:
  • Mobile website development
  • Accessibility
  • Mobile search engine optimisation
  • Keyword research
  • Multilingual mobile site optimisation
  • Mobile website design
  • Website analysis
There is a lot of new business queries for mobile news companies and breaking news SEO mobile which has been a massive learning curve. There are already many SEO companies making money by “creating mobile sites” and doing “mobile SEO.”

Mobile search isn't slowing down and is an obvious progression for Intrapromote to tie into traditional SEO efforts.

Facebook Retreats on Online Tracking

Within the last 10 days, more than 50,000 Facebook members have signed a petition objecting to the new program, which sends messages to users’ friends about what they are buying on Web sites like Travelocity.com and Fandango. The members want to be able to opt out of the program completely with one click, but Facebook won’t let them.

Facebook executives say the people who are complaining are a marginal minority. With time, Facebook says, users will accept Beacon, which Facebook views as an extension of the type of book and movie recommendations that members routinely volunteer on their profile pages. The Beacon notices are “based on getting into the conversations that are already happening between people,” Mr. Zuckerberg said when he introduced Beacon in New York on Nov. 6.

The complaints may seem paradoxical, given that the so-called Facebook generation is known for its willingness to divulge personal details on the Internet. But even some high school and college-age users of the site, who freely write about their love lives and drunken escapades, are protesting.

Facebook users each get a home page where they can volunteer information like their age, hometown, college and religion. People can post photos and write messages on their pages and on their friends’ pages.

Try online advertising for free

Microsoft adCenter is offering £30's worth of clicks to get you started. Microsoft adCenter has just published a piece of research in the US that looks into how small and medium businesses (SMBs) are embracing online and search marketing.

Microsoft adCenter has just published a piece of research in the US that looks into how small and medium businesses (SMBs) are embracing online and search marketing. Interestingly enough, the results from our cousins across the pond are quite consistent with UK research, which was commissioned a few months back in the UK.

On the one hand there is a growing interest from small businesses on how they can leverage digital mechanisms to increase their visibility. Around 2.79 million small businesses now have an online presence, yet on the other hand, a staggering 62% do not invest in search marketing campaigns to help potential customers find them online. This is for me the equivalent to owning a shop hidden down a side street and not advertising its whereabouts. In other words, the UK research showed that these businesses are collectively wasting an estimated £3 billion of investment on websites that are virtually invisible to consumers searching online.

Just like the phone book advert back in the old days, Search Marketing consists in putting your ad in front of prospects who are proactively looking for your product, except that now you no longer have to pay upfront. Search Marketing works on a pay-per-click model, so you are only charged a small fee when a prospect clicks on your ad to visit your website. And you actually decide how much that cost is. Search Marketing works indeed like an auction: you define the maximum amount you are prepared to pay for a qualified lead - the minimum being just a few pennies. You can even define a monthly budget so you are in total control, at all times.

Microsoft Testing Self Serve Publisher Advertising Product

Microsoft is doing good jobs in the time of 2008. They testing a new pilot program that will let third party publishers add Microsoft’s contextual ads next to their content in a self-serve format. Good job Microsoft!!

Google dominates this space (and all other contextual advertising) because it offers publishers far higher fees for ads. Yahoo and Microsoft have made up for that shortfall by offering guarantees in the past. Or in the case of Yahoo, by offering more flexible products like allowing their ads to be shown next to third party search results.

The new program will begin on July 21. No word on how Microsoft will get more money to these sites than what is offered by Google today but they are not requiring exclusivity: “You may also use Microsoft ads on the same sites and pages as Google ads as long as you do not have a specific exclusivity agreement with them.”

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson says this trial has actually been underway since earlier this year with a small group of publishers, but won’t say when or if this will officially roll out publicly.
